The joys of being a woman

For the first time in a very long time, my alarm went off this morning, and I didn’t want to slam the sounds of Wes, Ronnie, and Alley from KISSFM into the wall. I instead, laid in my bed for a few more minutes, allowing my body to adjust to the morning, and hearing out Wes’s story about golfing.

I was FLOORED with what I heard.

For the first time in my entire life I was listening to another man speak of how lame other men can be.

Let me explain.

Apparently KISSFM hosted a golf outing yesterday in which the entire morning show cast was in attendance. Apparently throughout the outing, Wes spent some time riding around on the beverage cart with the girls working it. He continued to tell a story of the repulsion he felt for men as with each and every hole she stopped at, she had to endure ongoing remarks and comments from the men at each of the holes. FINALLY for the first time, a man was seeing this situation from our eyes.

He laughed as he made fun of some of the comments, and he sincerely apologized on-air for the way that men act towards women sometimes. It was a refreshing thought to wake up to. I turned off the alarm with a smile =)

Now unfortunately, I am not as tolerant as apparently this beverage cart girl was for she responded to Wes saying “It doesn’t really bother me, I’ve gotten used to it”. This little lady on the other hand, has had to endure these situations my entire life and I am not so willing to just brush it off with a little giggle. I just sometimes wonder why it is that men feel the need to hoot and holler and spit their game at every walking pair of breasts they see. Is there really a point? Do they get more "booty" that way? Do women truly respond positively towards these situations?

But then I have to wonder where us women stand in all of this. After all, we are the ones giggling for tips and oogling our goodies for men to stare at. Maybe we're bringing this all on ourselves. Or at least we should take some credit for it.

Either way it's no excuse for a man to make a woman feel completely uncomfortable in her surroundings, and the cat calls are really unecessary, regardless of your chosen profession. I hope that a number of these men were listening to the KISS morning show this morning and heard how stupid they actually sound. Who knows ladies, maybe there’s hope for them, and our social lives after all.

Hello Christy, Michele sent me. First time visitor.

I think it makes men look stupid. I see it as almost funny sometimes. Degrading, yes, but consider how idiotic the men look. Makes it a bit easier to take sometimes.

I'll stay awhile and have a look around. My BF is a WI boy!

AMEN!
I've always hated all that cat-calling juvinile stupid stuff that men do...especially in the company of other men...It's like their need to be Macho for each other over-rides any sense or sensitivuty that they may have had! Help Us!

It's about time that some man came to his senses and finally started telling the truth! I'm not sure if men EVER grow up. LOL

I wish I had heard that show. It's just sickening to me how the society (really meaning all of us, through our choices as consumers, whether it be media or store purchases) still brainwashes young girls, and women in general, to primarily be sexual objects. Now mind you, I love attention as much as the next girl, and would love to be able to say I'm in great shape and all that, but really, do we need to have it all hanging out, underware showing all over the place? Is it necessary to have plastic surgery at 18? 28? ever? Do women (and little girls??!!) really need to be walking around in clothes that have "hot", "sweety", "da'bomb" written on their asses? I don't get it. Or, rather, I get it - and I hate it. UGH!

ummm...... sorry. I don't even know you and here I am going off on my soap box..... It was great reading some of your stuff. I'm here from Michele's.

Unfortunatley, this situation is a double edged sword.

On one end, is our right as women to wear what we want, and to finally be able to express ourselves in whatever way we choose! We no longer have to wear constricting corsets, or long layers of fabriced dresses. We can think, speak, and act for ourselves and it's wonderful.

But then on the other end, is the improper self promotion that we're exuding in this new found freedom. In expressing ourselves freely, we are creating a sexual image and it only encourages the negative feedback for which we've all been so accustomed to hearing.

I know I for one am not willing to revert back to the days of layers and corsets, but I'm also not willing to allow myself to be catcalled at for the rest of my life.

Something must be done =)

Hey Christi! Thanks for your visit to my blog!

You have a good point there. Sometimes I just wonder if this overly, and overtly, sexual image is truly us "expressing ourselves freely" or whether many young girls simply feel the pressure to be yet another "hot cheerleader" type or "female super hero" - both of which types wear amounts of fabric equal to tissue paper in a small gift bag.

I love being a woman, and being a sexual being. I enjoy the beauty of a strong female body, and I think celebrating and expressing it in ways that strengthens its spirit is awesome. But when it is done to sell or to artificially prop low self-esteem I think it can be as harmful and binding as corsets.

Christi,
I have been in the "beverage cart" business for close to 17 years. I agree with you on the issues of how men act. The reality, is that were dealing with children in adult body's and a beverage cart attendant is realy an adult babysitter/bartender. We usually ignore there stupidity because the drunker they get the more they give up what we want. Which is exactly what should happen for babysitting there ass. The only thing that really pisses me off is when married men cross the line. I hope this gives you some insite that beverage cart girls aren't idiots for putting up with mens crap we've just figured out a fun and easy way to make money. Not all cart girls put up with it either.

Hi Nicole!

I just want you to know that I in NO WAY think beverage cart girls are idots...or ANY girl that has to live for tips for that matter. I COMMEND YOU! I did it for a year working beer tubs at a club downtown Chicago and I will never do it again. It's too much for me. I can't handle it =)
